EAW Polikarpov I-16 type 17

This model represents a Soviet V.V.S. Polikarpov I-16 Type 17 aircraft from the 4th Guards Regiment, Baltic Fleet circa Spring 1942.

The I-16 Type 17's were improved Type 10's with some structural strength improvements, a tailwheel instead of a skid, and importantly, it had a more powerful engine, the Shvetsov M-63, offering 1,100 horespower and a 20Mmm shVAK cannon in each wing in place of a machine gun.

I developed this new model of the I-16 at Steve Day's urging, and in partnership with him. I developed the new 3DZ starting with Charles Gunst's original I-16 model. (I still can't fathom how Charles did it without anything but a hex editor) Steve Day is the author of this fantastic skin. The immersive cockpit was made by SteveT.

Unlike the Type 5 and the Type 10 we have already issued, the type 17's were not exported and didn't fly in foreign skies - the Spanish Civil War, China, etc. The Type 17 was strictly a Russian VVS aircraft.

Use with Charles' ECAPanel in the Hurricane slot.

My thanks to Steve Day for the excellent art work, Charles for the original basis 3DZ and ECAP flight model, and Alessandro Borges for his 3dz engineering tools.

Cheers,

Captain Kurt
